Bengaluru – Best Place To Do Business
The Capital of Karnataka, Bengaluru has an estimated metropolitan population of 6.5 million, making it India’s third most populous city and fifth-largest metropolitan area. It is home to numerous public sector heavy industries, software companies, aerospace, telecommunications, machine tools, heavy equipment, and defence establishments. Asia’s fastest growing cosmopolitan city, Bengaluru is referred to as the ‘Silicon Valley of India’ due to its pre-eminent position as the leading contributor to India’s IT industry. Bengaluru has developed into one of India’s major economic hubs and was rated by CNN as the “Best place to do business” in the world.
Home to India’s fourth largest FMCG, clothing and footwear market, Bengaluru also houses several public manufacturing heavy industries such as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Bharat Electronics Limited, Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) and Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT). Infosys and Wipro, India’s second and third largest software companies are headquartered in Bengaluru and is a hub for biotechnology related industry in India with the largest biotechnology company- Biocon based here.
The Garden City’s property and infrastructure development is in the midst of a very visible boom with flyovers, IT Parks, residential and commercial projects coming up. Bengaluru is expected to account for at least 30% of USD 50 billion foreign investment through Real Estate Investment Trusts that are awaiting SEBI’s nod. This would propel large scale water consumption. Participatory technology development for mitigating water scarce situations and developing water saving technologies is the need of the hour.
