Meet effluent treatment norms by April 30 or face action, firms told in Chandigarh

Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL) has finally written to companies doing the upgradation the sewage treatment plant (STP), directing them to meet all norms of liquid effluent treatment at any cost by April 30 or be ready to face major action. Since three STPs are being upgraded, the biggest Diggian-based plant is with one company, while remaining two STPs are also being run by one company as they are small in size.

The letter has come after a visit of the adviser to the UT administrator, the home-cum-local bodies secretary to these plants few days back, who had lambasted these companies for slow work. Moreover, the senior officials of the UT’s engineering department are also keeping a constant watch on the work. Since the Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL)had allotted the works of all five STP’s upgradation, the said work of upgradation of all 5 STPs is the biggest work of CSCL at an amount of over Rs 500 crore. The NGT is also minutely monitoring these projects and constantly checking the progress works too by holding the deliberations, meeting with the officials concerned of the MC and UT administration time to time.
