Unsegregated Waste; The Root of the Problem

Unsegregated Waste

In a recent move, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee had checked for water samples collected, in proximity to landfill sites, in Delhi. As per the samples collected, the water was highly contaminated. The Committee was of the view that the primary source of pollution, of groundwater, emanated from the unsegregated waste that was dumped at these landfill sites. Considering the threat that this unsegregated waste posed, especially to the environment, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee issued notices and sought a detailed report on the matter within six weeks from the Secretary, Union Jal Shakti Ministry, Chief Secretary, Delhi Government and the Chairman, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The Committee also stressed on the fact that among other things the report should also have a mention of the steps that needs to be taken to tackle this issue.
