PM MODI LAUNCHES MASSIVE WATER INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS IN RAJASTHAN

On February 28, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ajmer, Rajasthan, to inaugurate & lay the foundation stones for development projects worth over ₹16,680 crore. A significant portion of this outlay is dedicated to strengthening drinking water supply and irrigation systems across the state. These projects are designed to tackle the perennial water scarcity in Rajasthan by expanding the pipeline network and creating sustainable surface water sources.

The Prime Minister emphasized that these interventions are part of a broader “Indian Century” vision, where reliable utility services form the backbone of industrial and urban growth. By modernizing the irrigation infrastructure, the government aims to increase agricultural productivity while ensuring that rural households receive a consistent supply of potable water through the Jal Jeevan Mission framework.

Project Scope:

Of the total investment, ₹8,554 crore is directed toward state level water and urban initiatives, while the remainder supports national highway and energy corridors. The focus remains on “Speed and Scale,” ensuring that large-scale water distribution projects are completed within strictly defined timelines to avoid cost overruns. This push is expected to provide a major boost to the local economy and improve the quality of life for millions in the arid regions of the state.
