Chief Minister MK Stalin accorded in-principle approval for the much-awaited project of implementation of a Ring Main System (RMS) to strengthen the city’s drinking water supply network. He also approved the initiation of improvement works to the existing sewerage system under the Nesapakkam Treatment Plant catchment. Both projects will be executed by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) department. More than 20 lakh households in South Chennai are set to receive an improved water supply from 20 September, when the Chief Minister will inaugurate the newly upgraded Chembarambakkam Water Treatment Plant with a capacity of 530 MLD. The project, which will serve several parts of Chennai and its adjoining areas, marks a significant step towards strengthening the city’s water infrastructure.
