A new desalination plant is in progress and will be set up by April 2023 at Nemmeli. The second desalination plant will provide a drinking water supply to around nine lakh residents of Chennai. The new plant, built at a cost of Rs 1,259.38 crore, has the capacity to desalinate 150 million liters per day (MLD). BMC revives desalination plant plan to meet Mumbai’s water needs

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to revive its plan to set up a desalination plant to turn seawater into potable water through reverse osmosis, in an effort to tackle the water crisis plaguing Mumbai due to uneven rainfall.
