The CAG has noted that non-availability of sewage treatment facilities in urban local bodies (ULBs) across the coastal areas was posing a major threat to aquatic animals following depletion of oxygen in marine water. Only 8 sewage treatment plants in Bengaluru monitored properly, study finds

A study by an NGO has found that out of Bengaluru’s 31 sewage treatment plants, only eight are monitored properly for chemical oxygen demand, biochemical oxygen demand, pH, total nitrogen, faecal coliform, ammoniacal nitrogen and suspended solids for wastewater treatment. NEW DELHI: To revive lakes in the city with quality treated water, Delhi government is adopting a new technology that does aeration and bacteria treatment of the sewage to augment efficiency of the sewage treatment plants (STPs).Officials said they aimed at treating over 500MGD sewage, and over 150MGD treated water would be infused into the lakes, including 25 acres of Sanjay Lake. The central government has approved a Rs 229 crore sewage treatment project for Shimla. The project will be completed by the year 2025 and cater the population of the hill town for the next 30 years.
